Kolkata,17th August: Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a second consecutive day on Saturday, amid an ongoing probe into the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor.
Ghosh’s questioning, which began on Friday, extended into the early hours of Saturday, with the former principal reportedly facing intense scrutiny at the CBI’s office in the CGO Complex. He was made to wait until 9:30 PM before the questioning began, continuing until 3:00 AM. Just hours later, Ghosh returned to the CBI office for further interrogation.
During his initial round of questioning, Ghosh was asked about his immediate response to the doctor’s death, how the police were contacted, and details of the victim’s grueling work schedule, which allegedly involved shifts as long as 48 hours. Ghosh, who resigned two days after the incident, was questioned about his fears of being attacked, leading to his lawyer seeking protection from the Calcutta High Court.
The CBI, continuing its investigation, has compiled a list of around 40 individuals for questioning. Investigators also visited the crime scene and the accused’s residence, gathering samples and statements as the probe deepened.
