Former West Bengal CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Passes Away at 80: A Legacy Remembered

Kolkata, 08th August: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee passed away on Thursday at the age of 80 at his Kolkata residence. The news was confirmed by CPI(M) state secretary Mohd Salim to PTI.

Bhattacharjee had been battling age-related ailments, with a prolonged struggle against Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Despite multiple hospitalizations, his resilience often brought him back home. However, in recent days, his condition worsened.

Severe breathing difficulties, even with oxygen support, ultimately led to his demise around 8:30 am. Bhattacharjee is survived by his wife, Mira, and daughter, Suchetana.

A veteran leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Bhattacharjee served as West Bengal’s Chief Minister from 2000, succeeding Jyoti Basu. His contributions have left a lasting impact on the state’s political landscape.
