Naxalbari, 11th August: In a significant operation, Naxalbari police intercepted two individuals attempting to smuggle a substantial quantity of brown sugar. The accused, Arima Khatun (38) and Mohammad Majirul (40), residents of Golapganj in Kaliachak, Malda, were apprehended near the Rathkhola railway gate.
The duo had arrived at Naxalbari railway station by train from Malda with plans to exchange the drugs in Kharibari. Acting on a tip-off, police recovered 490 grams of brown sugar from the suspects during the search.
Both individuals were presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday. The Naxalbari police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the case. Following the arrests, Naxalbari Gram Panchayat Upa-Pradhan Bishwajit Ghosh called on the community to unite in efforts to keep Naxalbari drug-free.
