Alipurduar, 23rd August: A tragic incident claimed the life of Kamal Das, a resident of Madhya Satali in Kalchini block, Alipurduar district when he was struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run accident. The fatal incident occurred on Thursday night in the Gurudwara area of Hasimara, Kalchini block.
Kamal Das had just disembarked from a train arriving from Nagrakata at Hasimara station and was walking home along the national highway when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle. The vehicle ran over him and fled the scene, leaving him fatally injured on the spot.
Police officials from the Hasimara Outpost responded swiftly to the scene. The body was first taken to Latabari Rural Hospital in Kalchini before being sent to Alipurduar District Hospital for an autopsy. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
