Unregistered E-Rickshaws Barred from Siliguri’s Main Roads to Reduce Congestion

Siliguri, 01st August: In a decisive move to alleviate traffic congestion, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police has banned unregistered e-rickshaws from operating on the city’s main roads. The directive came after a critical meeting involving Mayor Gautam Deb, senior police officials, including the Police Commissioner and the DCP of Traffic, addressing the growing issue of e-rickshaws.

Starting Thursday morning, unregistered e-rickshaws are restricted from main thoroughfares such as Hill Cart Road, Sevoke Road, Bidhan Road, and various national highways. This ban also extends to internal roads across the city.

Traffic guards initiated an operation today to enforce the prohibition and stop unregistered autos from running. Police sources confirmed that this operation would persist in the coming days to ensure compliance and smooth traffic flow.
