Siliguri, 01st August: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police and Siliguri Municipal Corporation have introduced measures to regulate e-rickshaw operations in the city. Effective today, August 1, unregistered e-rickshaws are banned, and registered e-rickshaws must adhere to new route assignments.
The traffic police will oversee approximately 5,000 registered e-rickshaws, each assigned a specific path within Siliguri. To ensure compliance, registered e-rickshaws will be marked with distinctive colors, preventing unauthorized route deviations. Additionally, e-rickshaws are prohibited from operating on national highways starting today.
The traffic police have started distributing new guidelines to all e-rickshaw operators. While today serves as a grace period, enforcement of the new regulations will begin on Friday. Violators will face appropriate action.
