Siliguri Police Bust Scooty Gang Involved in Snatching and Drug Smuggling

Siliguri, December 2: In a significant breakthrough, the Pradhan Nagar police arrested two members of a notorious scooty gang responsible for snatching and drug smuggling in the city.

The accused, Rana Roy and Raj Barman, residents of Shivram Pally under Bhakti Nagar police station, had been operating across Pradhan Nagar, Matigara, and Siliguri areas for several days. Using a scooty without a number plate, they primarily targeted women, causing widespread concern.

Police revealed that the gang was also smuggling banned cough syrup. On Sunday night, officers intercepted the suspects on a black scooty at Darjeeling More. They were apprehended near the Regulated Market after a chase despite attempting to flee.

Searching the scooter’s trunk led to the recovery of 60 bottles of banned cough syrup hidden in two bags. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody.

The accused were presented in Siliguri court on Monday. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the gang, as law enforcement intensifies efforts to curb such criminal activities in the city.
