NATIONAL HIGHWAY LANDSLIDE IMAGE

In a significant development from Sikkim, fresh landslides have been reported along National Highway 10 near Melli. This crucial roadway, linking Gangtok and Darjeeling, has been closed for 34 days, causing severe disruption. The Gangtok-Jorthang Road also remains impassable.

Ongoing inclement weather and heavy rains continue to exacerbate the situation, causing frequent landslides that block key routes. The extended road closures have left residents grappling with lengthy and arduous alternative routes, increasing both travel time and expenses.

Public transport fares have more than doubled due to the detours, and the prices of essential goods have surged in Sikkim and Kalimpong. Locals are facing significant hardships as the breakdown in road connectivity impacts daily life and the regional economy. The continuing struggle highlights the urgent need for improved infrastructure and disaster management in the Himalayan state.
