Naxalbari, 12th August: In a significant anti-drug operation, Naxalbari Police, alongside the Darjeeling Police’s Special Operation Group (SOG), arrested 21-year-old Utpal Barman from Raghu Jote, Naxalbari. The youth was found with 206 grams of brown sugar, a highly potent illegal substance, valued in lakhs.
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcement set up a watch near a canal in Raghu Jote. Their efforts were rewarded when Barman, seen entering the village on a bicycle, was intercepted. A search revealed a substantial quantity of brown sugar in his possession.
Barman was immediately taken into custody and later presented before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Monday. The Naxalbari police have initiated a thorough investigation to trace the origins of the narcotics and any potential links to larger trafficking networks.
