Siliguri, 23rd July: A tragic incident unfolded in Siliguri as a minor succumbed to dengue, leaving the community in mourning. Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb, alongside Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and other officials, visited the family of the deceased in Swami Nagar, Ward No. 07, on Tuesday morning to offer condolences and support.
The minor had been admitted to a nursing home last Saturday and was diagnosed with dengue following medical examination. Despite receiving treatment, the child tragically passed away on Sunday. This heart-wrenching loss has raised concerns about healthcare in the region.
Expressing his sorrow, Mayor Gautam Deb described the incident as deeply saddening. The family has alleged medical negligence as the cause of death. In response, a medical team has been formed to investigate the allegations, and an emergency meeting has been scheduled to address the matter. The Mayor emphasized the Municipal Corporation’s ongoing efforts to raise dengue awareness and eliminate stagnant water to prevent further cases. A thorough review by the health department is underway, with a detailed report to follow.
Opposition leader Amit Jain criticized the Siliguri Municipal Corporation’s handling of the situation. He accused the corporation of failing to mobilize its employees effectively, resulting in widespread water accumulation, a breeding ground for dengue. Jain highlighted that he had repeatedly raised this issue with the corporation, but his warnings were ignored.
