Leopard Cubs Discovered in Naxalbari Tea Estate Drainage; Forest Department Ensures Safety

Naxalbari, 05th August: In an unexpected discovery, workers at Pahargoomiah Tea Estate in Naxalbari found two leopard cubs in the drainage system, prompting swift action from the forest department.

The workers, who were picking tea leaves, immediately notified authorities upon spotting the cubs. In response, the Bagdogra Range workers, accompanied by the Elephant Squad and Jambo Troops, arrived at the scene.

To ensure the safe return of the cubs to their mother, forest workers secured the area and installed cameras for continuous monitoring. Notably, the mother leopard was able to retrieve one of the cubs from the drain, but the other cub remains.

Debesh Pandey, DFO of Kurseong Forest Division, reported over the phone that worker movement in the tea garden has been halted. Forest workers are now conducting 24-hour surveillance to safeguard the remaining cub
