Siliguri, 04th August: Mayor Gautam Deb has issued a stern warning to realtors in Siliguri regarding the improper sale of designated residential parking areas for commercial purposes. Speaking at an interactive session hosted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on the “Urban Landscape in North Bengal” on Friday, Deb highlighted the growing issue of traffic congestion caused by such practices.
“The SMC (Siliguri Municipal Corporation) will take strict action against builders who sell parking areas. It is worrying that a section of realtors sells parking areas for alternative use, even though there is a clear provision in building plans to leave the parking area free. This trend is aggravating the problem of traffic congestion throughout the city. From now on, plans of buildings not having proper parking space will not be approved by the civic body,” Deb stated.
He emphasized that the municipal corporation will not approve building plans lacking proper parking spaces, aiming to curb the rising traffic woes in the city.
