Fulbari, August 19, 2024: The body of Gautam Das, a resident of Durga Das Colony in Siliguri, was found at Lockgate No. 01 of the Mahananda Barrage, Fulbari, five days after he went missing under suspicious circumstances.

Das had left with five friends for a trip to the Teesta Canal in Fulbari on August 14. Shortly after their departure, he called his wife, claiming that two of his friends were assaulting him. The call abruptly ended, and his phone was switched off.

His family immediately filed a complaint at the New Jalpaiguri Police Station, leading to the arrest of the five friends. A search operation by the disaster management team and local police ultimately led to the discovery of his body on August 18.

Das’s family alleges that his friends murdered him and demands severe punishment for the accused. The police have sent the body for post-mortem and launched a comprehensive investigation.
