Siliguri, 07th August: Himanshu Dev Sharma (43) was apprehended by the Siliguri Women’s Police Station for allegedly deceiving a woman into a physical relationship under the pretense of marriage.
Sharma, who operates a pineapple farm in Bidhan Nagar and lives in Ward No. 22 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, began a relationship with a married woman from Malbazar four years ago. The woman was visiting a relative in Siliguri when the relationship commenced. Sharma allegedly promised marriage and engaged in an intimate relationship with her, resulting in the birth of a child in 2021.
Over time, Sharma distanced himself and denied paternity of the child. The woman filed a formal complaint on June 28, prompting the police to investigate. After evading authorities for some time, Sharma was arrested at his home following a tip-off. On Wednesday, he was presented in Siliguri Court as the investigation continues.
