Siliguri, 19th August: A troubling incident occurred in Siliguri’s Ujanu, Shiv Nagar area, where a man was arrested for attempting to abduct an 8-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Kanai Biswas, allegedly lured the child with a chocolate near the gas warehouse at Darjeeling More under Ward No. 46 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation. The incident took place at night when the girl was out to buy essentials. Biswas reportedly tried to lead her to a deserted area, claiming he would take her to her father. The child, however, escaped his grasp and alerted her family.
Local residents, angered by the incident, swiftly captured Biswas and handed him over to the police. Community members also voiced their concerns about the presence of drug addicts near the Police Commissionerate building, criticizing the police for inaction. Biswas was presented in court on Monday as the investigation continues.
