Siliguri, 12th August: In the wake of a horrific assault and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, doctors across West Bengal have launched a widespread strike, with North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) in Siliguri joining the protest. Junior doctors at NBMCH began their strike on Monday morning, staging a sit-in protest outside the medical emergency department.
The tragic incident has ignited widespread outrage within the medical community, prompting calls for a judicial investigation and improved security measures in all hospitals and medical colleges across the state. While emergency services at NBMCH remain operational, OPD services have been suspended, causing considerable distress to patients and their families. The protesting doctors are resolute in their demand for justice and heightened safety for healthcare professionals.
