Siliguri, 30th July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has intensified its anti-encroachment drive on Nivedita Road, demolishing unauthorized structures in the area. The operation, which began on Tuesday, targeted shops encroaching on the roadside near Margaret School in Ward No. 02.
Municipal officials and workers faced opposition from local businessmen before starting the demolition. The shop owners voiced their dissatisfaction, stating they received notice only a day prior and lacked sufficient time to remove their shops.
The SMC’s actions highlight ongoing efforts to reclaim public spaces and maintain order in the city, despite resistance from affected business owners. The drive underscores the challenges of balancing urban management with the needs of local enterprises.
